NASA/GRC has a requirement for the fabrication of thin film aerogels reinforcedwith electrospun fibers suitable for space applications. NASA/GRC intends to purchase the items from the University of Akron, Research Servicesand Sponsored Programs, 302 Buctal Common, Akron, Ohio 44325. They have developed andbuilt a one of a kind facility used specifically for the pilot production of thin filmswith embedded nanofibers. This research program will be carried out in closecollaboration with the Polymers Branch at GRC to produce silica aerogels.The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform theeffort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local timeon September 28, 2010. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for thepurpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis.
