Clemson University's Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department is seeking to make an emergency purchase of 908 Devices' services for the COVID-19 CLIA Laboratory. Clemson has contracted to have sample analyzer using this machine by 908 Devices for this project in the past and these studies have investigated the behavior Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells to product biologic drugs and diagnostics, which includes proteins for COVID antibody tests. In order to continue this research, Clemson needs this same machine in-house to continue the research to control control CHO cell cultures using amino acid limitations. . This research requires that we have the same machine to analyzer the culture samples for continuity of research and having the machine in-house will allow for faster turnaround of data and more precise culture control. The data being obtained from the measurements the can be communicated and shared within our current systems. 908 Devices is the only supplier that sells the machine that will allow for continuity of data between the previous work and future work. Using another machine besides the Rebel to measure amino acid concentrations would be incompatible with other data already collected thus far on this research project. Further, this is the only machine capable of using extremely small sample (10 micoliters) and providing results in 7 minutes. Larger samples and long turnaround times are incompatible with the future research goals. For these reasons, this is a sole source procurement. These services and equipment cannot be purchased thru any other reseller or distributor. For these reasons, this is a sole source. The total value of this purchase is $126,000.00 USD. Bidder’s right to protest as listed in Section 11-35-4210 in the South Carolina Consolidated Procurement Code applies to this announcement of an emergency procurement. Protest to be filed with:
