The U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000, is currently seeking interested sources of commercially available thermal barriers to reduce the rate of thermal transmission to munitions subjected to fires. Such materials are required to reduce the reaction of packaged munitions when subjected to adverse thermal stimuli. These stimuli are caused by accident or hostile action in accordance with the DODââ¬â¢s Insensitive Munitions Policy. Thermal barriers must be able to be integrated into or onto Army munitions packaging systems, without loss or degradation of packaging performance or adverse impacts on the Army logistics system. The integrated packaging systems must also pass sequential rough handling requirements of MIL-STD-1904 at temperature extremes of -65F to +160F. In addition, ARDEC will consider conducting optimization activities to improve the robustness of commercially available thermal barriers to meet military requirements, if necessary. Interested parties should respond by April 14, 2006 to
[email protected]. This survey is not a Solicitation, and should not be construed as such. While a Solicitation may be generated regarding Thermal Management of Packaged Munitions for Insensitive Munitions (IM) Enhancement in the future, no follow- on activities are guaranteed. Any costs incurred by a respondent in connection with this market survey will not be paid for by the government.
