DESCRIPTION
In accordance with Military Specification MIL-C-81904, Coating Compound, Thermal Insulation, Ablative, dated May 31, 1991 and Amendment 1, dated August 24, 1992.
QPL qualification required.
Component A only: polyester base resin
Color: ghost gray, FED-STD-595 Color 36375
Size: The product shall be furnished in 590 lb quantities in new, straight-sided, cylindrical, steel drums of the type normally used for this product provided that there will be no interaction chemically or physically with the contents so as to damage the container or alter the strength, quality, or purity of the contents. The filled drums shall be closed in a manner that will insure that the contents will not spill or leak from the containers during shipment, handling, storage, and redistribution. The drums shall, as a minimum, meet the applicable requirements of the National Motor Freight Classification, Uniform Freight Classification, and Department of Transportation regulations.

Maximum age on delivery: 21 days
EXCEPTION(S) TO TECHNICAL DOCUMENT
1. Remove MIL-P-87938 as an applicable document under Military in Paragraph 2.1.1.
2. Change paragraph 3.4.2 as follows:
3.4.2 Component B (Catalyst). Component B is a composition of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide containing glycerine. The glycerine content shall not exceed 9% by weight of the solution. The component B shall conform to the requirements as stated below:

3. Add Paragraphs 4.6.3, 4.6.3.1, 4.6.3.2, and 4.6.3.3 as follows:
4.6.3 Component B (Catalyst) Tests.
4.6.3.1 Active Oxygen. The active oxygen content shall be
determined using the following method: Thoroughly mix the
solution prior to withdrawing samples. Prepare glass stoppered
125 ml Erlenmeyer flasks by adding 20 ml of glacial acetic acid
then passing carbon dioxide into the acid in each flask for two
minutes. Weigh to the third decimal point approximately 0.2 gram
samples into these flasks. Add 10 ml of KI solution (10 grams KI
in 20 ml water) and let stand in the dark for 15 minutes. Add 10
ml water, and titrate with 0.1N sodium thiosulfate to colorless
endpoint. A blank shall also be run and subtracted from the
sample titration before calculation.

weight; N = normality of sodium thiosulfate solution.
4.6.3.2 Specific Gravity. Specific gravity shall be determined in accordance with ASTM D 891.
4.6.3.3 Refractive Index. Refractive index shall be determined in accordance with Method 4371 of Federal Test Method Std. No. 141.
4. Renumber present paragraphs 4.6.3 through 4.6.12.
5. If previously qualified product has changed manufacturer, the current manufacturer shall certify that the original qualifying product and formula has not been changed.
ITEM MARKING
Special marking shall include:
(1) lot or batch number
(2) dates of manufacture and reinspection
(3) manufacturer's name and part number
(4) instructions for use, thinning, mixing, etc. on unit containers
only
(5) instructions for storage, ie. do not freeze, refrigerate, etc.
(6) marking required by specification:
para. 5.3.1.1 and Amend. 1 Component A (resin) containers
para. 5.3.1.2 and Amend. 1 Component B (catalyst) containers
para. 5.3.2 application instructions
MARKING
All unit, intermediate, transport packages and unit loads shall be marked for delivery to civilian activities in accordance with the FED-STD-123G, dated June 6, 1997, or marked for delivery to military activities in accordance with MIL-STD-129N, dated 15, May, 1997, as applicable.
