The US Army Corps of Engineers intends to negotiate and award, on a sole source basis, a stand-alone fixed price operation and maintenance contract for a period of one year to support the operation of the Varian Linear Accelerator (LINAC) installed at the Basrah Children's Hospital in Basrah, Iraq. Actions shall support the safe and continuous use of the LINAC and shall include training of hospital personnel on LINAC operation and maintenance. It is the expressed intent of this contract that the local hospital personnel are appropriately trained on the operation and maintenance of the LINAC so that they can operate it without assistance after this one year contract is complete, This action is pursuant to 10 U.S.C 2304(c)(1), as implemented by Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1, 'Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirement.' Award to any source other than Varian Medical Systems, Inc would result in unacceptable delays and substantial cost that are considered to be well beyond any cost savings that might be achieved through competition. This action will be awarded via a one year stand-alone contract. Spare parts purchase and installation related to the operation and maintenance of the LINAC is optional, and if awarded, will be limited to $100,000 and shall only occur upon written direction from the Contracting Officer. Under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, this action is directed towards Varian Medical Systems, Inc. This notice of intent/synopsis is being issued for information purposes only and it is not a request for competitive proposals. Solicitation documents are not available. All responses should be directed to Pete DeMattei at [email protected] and must be received within seven (7) days from publication of this synopsis. No telephone inquires will be accepted.
