The only feasible way to achieve this is dual laser multiphoton microscopy. There is only one commercial source for dual galvanometer (beams are independently scanned) multiphoton microscopes. This technology is essential to achieve the speed and precision of targeted photoactivation required for our experiments. Their patented Acuosto-Optical Deflector (AOD) fast scanning system is the only technology available for imaging with multiphoton light at speeds which are sufficiently fast to follow real time synaptic signaling and, therefore, will permit visualization of neuronal processes that can not be imaged with any other technology.
