The U.S. Geological Survey has a requirement to purchase a high-resolution, magnetic sector, noble gas mass spectrometer for 40Ar/39Ar geochronology of young rocks. The mass spectrometer is to be used with a USGS-built ultra-high-vacuum argon extraction line. The spectrometer must have a high sensitivity, very low background, and peak shape sufficient to yield argon isotope analyses of the highest possible precision. The acquisition method will be negotiated. A determination not to continue with this acquisition based upon response to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
