THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR GRINDINGAND POLISHING OF FUSED QUARTZ. Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in theirquote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a writtenamendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to answer questions. Therefore below are the questions: QUESTION: 1.In the SOW, under the Tolerance section, where it states -20 deg. <theta < 20 deg please confirm if theta should actually be phi?ANSWER: Yes, it is the azimuthal angle.QUESTION: 2. In the SOW, under the Tolerance section, where it states the surfacedeviation from the above mathematical prescription should be no more than 2um (10-6meter) please confirm if +/- 2um from the mathematical prescription implies totalsurface error of 4um peak to valley, or if it should be +/- 1um from the mathematicalprescription which implies total surface error of 2um peak to valley.ANSWER: It means a peak to valley of 4 m.QUESTION: 3. For the optics to satisfy the technical requirements and tolerances, whatis the desired support under the optic? ie. is the optic merely sitting on a surfacelike a table with induced gravity sag? Does it represent a 0-gravity surface? Or isthere a particular mount/support intended?ANSWER: The figure represents 0-gravity surface.QUESTION: 4. Do the polishing requirements apply only over the central area as definedby -20 deg. < theta < 20 deg and -120mm < z < 120mm or is the entire outersurface intended to meet the polished specification?ANSWER: It applies to the central area as defined: -20 deg. < theta < 20 deg and-120mm < z < 120mm QUESTION: 5. What is the surface quality of the incoming blank at the outer surface tobe processed?ANSWER: The surface of the incoming blank is a fine grind surface.QUESTION: 6. Are we correct in assuming that the incoming blank will be in the form of apure cylinder? If not, please advise.ANSWER: Yes.The due date for receipt of offers IS NOT extended.Companies shall provide the information stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASAAcquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on August 24, 2010.
