The National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) has a requirement to purchase an Andor DU-888E-COO-#BV EMCCD camera. The purchase of this instrument from Andor Technology, 425 Sullivan Avenue, Suite #3, South Windsor, CT 06074, is requested to conduct fluorescence resonance energy transfer and single molecule fluorescence studies of fluorescently tagged signaling molecules. The studies are focused on determining protein-protein interactions and protein stoichiometry of molecules involved in synaptic transmission.The projected experiments require a camera capable of detecting extremely low fluorescence levels down to the single molecule level with requirements that include 1) at least 1000 x 1000 pixel resolution; 2) highly regulated thermoelectric cooling of -75 to -90 degrees C; 3) on-chip gain to 1000x; 4) quantum efficiency of greater than 90%; 5) dynamic range of 14-16 bits; 6) selectable linear gain; 6) availability of drivers compatible with the Igor Pro software package (Wavemetrics) to ensure compatibility with existing custom software. To the best of the Government?s knowledge the proposed contractor is the only known source that can provide the components. Interested vendors may identify in writing their interest with a capability statement to the Contracting Office prior to the closing date of this notice. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, however; all responses received, before the closing date, of this announcement will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed acquisition is based upon responses to this notice and is solely within the discretion of the Government. It is anticipated that the Request for Quotation (RFQ) NIH-NIDDK-06-1013 will be available fifteen (15) days after the publication date of this synopsis. Receipt of quotations will be due ten (10) days after the release of the RFQ. The anticipated award date is September 22, 2006.
