The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Albany, CA requires a DNA Sequencer/Genetic Analyzer, with the following specifications:1. Capable of running up to 100 samples in parallel (at once).
2. Includes filters for multiple fluorescent chemistries.
3. Includes and accepts a data acquisition computer, preferably with CD-RW drive and an up-to-date Pentium processor.
4. Equipped with autoloading capability, preferably sampling from a 96 or 384 well microtiter plate.
5. Autoloading, flushing and sample processing must operate via computer control.
6. Capable of sequence reads in excess to 1,000 basepairs.
7. Capable of using multiple Sequencing and Genotyping chemistries including: BigDye, DYEnamic, (primer or ET) ROX, HEX, TAMRA, TET, FAM, etc.
8. Capable of using a wide variety of DNA cleanup methods including: ethanol precipitation, isopropanol precipitation, column purification, etc.
9. Capable of using a wide variety of templates including: plasmid, thermal-cycled, direct bacterial colony, BAC, YAC, lambda, etc.
10. Interfaces with sequencing and genotyping software.
11. Capable of exporting data in a variety of formats (.scf, .txt, .qual, .ab1).
12. Includes one year warranty on parts, labor, travel and scheduled maintenance, at a minimum.
13. Economical in terms of reagent and processing costs (preferably = $2.00/sample).
