The Veterans Administration, Augusta VA intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Nicoyalife for Open SPR-XT and components The VA requires a benchtop surface plasmon resonance (SPR) instrument to provide high quality, label-free interaction analysis. The Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) will be used to determine the interaction between aquaporin-3 (AQP3) and phospholipase D2 (PLD2), which is crucial to the anti- inflammatory action of AQP3 and glycerol, as it allows the glycerol transported by AQP3 to the converted to phosphatidylglycerol (PG) by the action of PLD2. PG, in turn, suppresses inflammation by inhibiting the activation of toll-like receptors (TLRs) of the innate immune system. The principal investigator would also use the SPR to examine the interaction between PG and TLRs and TLR co-receptors in order to generate preliminary data (see salient characteristics below).
