The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Acquisition Management Division, on behalf of the Surface and Microanalysis Science Division, intends to negotiate on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 13.5 Test Program for Certain Commercial Items (section 4202 of the Clinger-Cohen Act of 1996), with Coherent, Inc. of Santa Clara, California, for an upgrade to an existing Coherent laser that NIST already owns. The description of the part being procured is Chameleon-XR Hands-Free Ultrafast Ti Sapphire Laser, Part No. 1062584. *** This notice of intent is based on market research that leads NIST to believe that only Coherent, Inc. can provide the item noted above. ***The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 employees. ***No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations, however, parties authorized by Coherent, Inc. that can provide the Part No. noted above may respond to this notice to indicate that they can provide it. Such notice shall be provided by May 23, 2005. The Government will then determine whether this procurement can be competed. A determination by the Government whether to compete the proposed acquisition will be based upon responses to this notice.
