The US Geological Survey, Eastern Region Acquisitions and Grants intends to make a non competitive award to BioGX Inc., in Birmingham, AL, to purchase dried-down bead material for the detection of viral RNA from wild bird samples for the presence of the H5N1 avian influenza as part of the national Early Detection of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza Surveillance Plan; for sixty-five (65) avian influenza matrix CSR, Duplex with internal control 400 reaction per kit, testing kits to be delivered to Madison, WI by 09/02/2008.
This is a requirement under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures.
BioGX Inc. is the only known source for this requirement because they are the only manufacturer of the detection materials in a freeze dried and pre-mixed format that is approved for use in the USDA National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) procedures. The USGS Wildlife Health Center is obligated to adhere to the USDA NAHLN procedures unless superior detection methods are identified.
