The Pacific Regional Contracting Office at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), Hawaii, intends to make a sole source award to Terumo BCT, Inc. for the purchase of a Trima Collection System. This is the only apheresis collection system in the marketplace that will allow the functionality needed for TAMC to maintain continuity of blood products. No other model will be compatible with the supplies that are already held in-house to be used with this collection system. Therefore, the Trima Collection System is the only one that can meet the Government's current need. The Trima Collection System is only manufactured by Terumo BCT, Inc. The statutory authority permitting this award without providing full and open competition is 41 U.S.C. 1901, as cited in FAR 13.501(a)(1)(ii), which authorizes the government to award contracts when there is only one responsible source and no other suppliers or services will satisfy agency requirements.
