VISN 6, Department of Veterans Affairs, will be releasing a solicitation for the purchase of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureous (MRSA) Analyzers for deployment to our Medical Centers located in Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia. Anticipated date of release is on or about June 25, 2007. Responses will be due on or about July 9, 2007. Potential contractors must provide an FDA approved, fully-integrated and automated analysis instrument that uses a nucleic acid analysis for the rapid detection of MRSA from patient specimens. Acceptable solutions will allow flexibility for future expansion of testing, using the same instrumentation footprint to include, but not be limited to, Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus, Clostridium difficile, and Enterovirus. Acceptable systems must be able to run individual samples without the need for batching and use unprepared samples with little or no preparation time (measured in minutes). Acceptable systems should be able to conduct the test and give results rapidly (measured in hours including preparatory time). There should be no requirement for a molecular trained technologist to operate the analyzer or to perform the test.
