The Army Contracting Command, National Capital Region, on behalf of the
United States Army Information Technology Agency - Integrated Infrastructure and Telecommunications Services (ITA-I2TS) intends to award a sole source contract under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, "Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements," to General Instrument Corporation c/o Motorola, 101 Tournament Drive, Horsham, PA 19044.

General Instrument Corporation c/o Motorola will provide commercial grade cable television (CATV) headend controllers utilized by the customer in the operation of the cable television network services, which require digital access controller hardware (DAC6000). Digital Video Services will also be provided to support installation and commissioning of headend controllers within the customer's headend facilities. Upgrade to the existing headend controllers is needed to continue to enable the DoD customers to obtain maximum usage of the services. An installation engineer will be provided for the initial installation at the site. This is a follow-on requirement for the continued provision of specialized services. The major operating systems, including proprietary commercial software, licensed under this agreement will perform substantially in accordance with the published product specifications. General Instrument Corporation c/o Motorola retains the proprietary software used in this product. The vendor will supply new or refurbished replacement parts for defective parts, after notification from the customer, for a period of one year following contract award date. This action will result in a Firm Fixed Price contract. This Notice of Intent to award a sole source contract is not a request for competitive proposals.
