The Contractor shall furnish all plant, labor, equipment, material, and supplies to furnish and deliver 50 dense hardwood mats to be used for ground support matting for cranes and off road trucks in construction areas of poor ground stability. (OPTI ONAL: 25 ADDITIONAL MATS). Mats shall be composed of timbers which are dense hardwood equal to oak species. Timbers which are of the gum, poplar, or beech species shall not be used as components in the mats. The mats to be furnished shall be 4 feet wide by 18 feet long by 8 inches thickness. Timbers shall be continuous 18 in length and a minimum of 8 x 8 cross section. The mats shall be assembled using an adequate number and diameter of thru bolts such as to prevent warpage and spacing of the timbers o r distortion due to heavy loading. A minimum of five 1 diameter thru bolts per mat is required. The mats shall be furnished with both notched and exposed 1 diameter thru bolts and ¾ diameter cables with two clips per cable on each end for lifting and handling. Mats shall be constructed of oak hardwood. Mixed hardwood mats will be rejected. Mats shall be new and unused. The Contractor shall provide delivery of the mats to Jonesville Lock and Dam, 13 miles south of Jonesville, La. on Hwy 124, Glade, La. in Catahoula Parrish.
