During the paint stipping process, storage tanks maintained by 309 CMXG/QPL fill with a significant quantity of paint, solids, and debris that must be removed from the paint stripping solution. To remove this debris, the paint stripping solution must be descanted, solids must be removed, and and the usable solution must be returned to the tanks.
This ârecyclingâ process allows the facility to reutilize the solution, which reduces process cost as well as disposal costs/liability.
These proprietary chemicals cannot be mixed with other brands of chemical. Switching brands now would require that 6000 gallons of existing paint stripper be drained and disposed. Because the material is hazardous, disposal will be time consuming and costs will be considerable. Additional costs will be incurred in lost production. Draining and refilling storage tanks can take several weeks to months to complete. The entire production process will be shut down unil the storage tanks can be filled. Changing chemicals will therefore result in substantial duplication of costs that are not expected to be recovered through price competition and unacceptable delays in fulfilling the agencyâs requirements.
