WORK ITEM 1: Preserve Weather Decks 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This work item describes the requirements for the Contractor to preserve the following steel and aluminum exterior decks, shown on Coast Guard Drawings 912 WMEC 801-003 and 912 WMEC-801-005: 1.1.3 Aluminum 03 Decks: inboard of stacks, house top, hangar/house top. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS Coast Guard Maintenance and Logistics Command Atlantic (MLCA), Standard Specification 0000_STD, 2004 Edition, General Requirements Coast Guard Commandant Instruction (COMDTINST) M10360.3, Mar 2005, Coatings and Color Manual Coast Guard Drawing 912 WMEC 801-003, Rev F, General Arrangement-02/Pilothouse & Above Coast Guard Drawing 912 WMEC 801-005, Rev E, General Arrangement-Main Deck3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General. 3.1.1 Protective measures. The Contractor shall protect non-affected vessel?s equipment, components, and spaces during surface preparation and coating application procedures, as specified in the paragraph titled ?Protective measures? in Std Spec 0000_STD. 3.1.2 Substrate inspection. After completion surface preparation and before coating application, the Contractor shall perform a visual inspection of the prepared substrate, and submit a CFR. 3.1.3 Interferences. The Contractor shall be aware that interferences in way of work include, but are not limited to the following: FANTAIL ? Ladder (to the flight deck). ? Three sets of paired bits (2?X 4?). ? Vent shaft. ? Two Portable Pump containers (Ship?s Force will assist with removal). ? Three elephants feet. ? Two hatches (4?X 4?). ? Spare outboard engine. 03 DECK FORWARD ? MK 92 Egg ? Egg shaped radar antenna is located on the forward section of the 03 Deck. ? Big Eye Binoculars ? 1 big eye set of binoculars is mounted on the port and starboard side of the forward section of the 03 Deck. ? Sound Powered Phone Receptacle ? 1 sound powered phone receptacle is located on the port and starboard side of the forward section of the 03 Deck. ? 2 GPS receives and mounts are positioned on the port side. ? 1 Sat Phone receiver is positioned on the after section of this Deck on the starboard side. 03 DECK MAIN SECTION ? Several antennas and sensors are located on this section of the 03 Deck including 2 HF antennas, 2 IFF Sensors, and 2 Satellite receivers. ? 2 Pyro lockers are located in the after section of this deck. 1 is on the port and the other is to starboard. The pyro can be removed upon request to accommodate the work party. ? 2 Flag Bag boxes are positioned on each side of the Deck. They are approx. 5 feet by 2.5 feet. ? 03 DECK AFT ? 2 SRBOC launchers are permanently mounted in the after section of this deck. 1 to port and the other to starboard. ? 2 Chaff lockers are permanently mounted in the forward section of this deck on each side of the vessel. Chaff will be stored in these lockers during the renovation. ? Electronic wires - There are several areas on this deck that have electrical wires that lead to antennas, cameras, and flight deck equipment. ? 2 Engine stacks are located on each side of the forward end of this deck. These stacks must be covered prior to deck removal to prevent debris from spilling into the stacks and engineering spaces. ? Boom and Boom stanchion is located on the port side of Deck. The boom can be removed for easier access; however, the brackets and stanchion cannot. ? The Glyde Scope Indicator is on the after section of this Deck just above the helo hangar. Several electrical cables and brackets are in this area and cannot be removed. Bridge Deck Interferences ? Peloris - 1 Peloris and Gyro Repeater are located on the port and starboard sides. 3.2 Preservation particulars. The Contractor shall preserve the designated surfaces, including bitt and chock foundations, machinery rack guards and machinery foundations, stanchion sockets, vent pipes, angle coaming area, and approximately six inches up all adjacent vertical surfaces (as applicable) in accordance with Std Spec 0000_STD, paragraph titled ?General preservation requirements?, and in accordance with COMDTINST M10360.3, use the systems specified for ?Freeboard/Superstructure/Mast (Freeboard/Superstructure, Steel), Option I? and ?Freeboard/Superstructure, Aluminum, Option I?, as applicable; and ?Weather Deck Non-Skid, Broadcast Grit for Steel or Aluminum?. Select the polysiloxane topcoat. Do not apply non-skid aggregate over the following surfaces: 3.2.1 Within two inches of deck fittings, hatches, welds, and protrusions. 3.2.2 Within six inches of deck coaming, bulkheads, and deck edges. 3.2.3 Beneath liferaft or pump foundations. 3.2.4 Within two inches of deck foundations (two inches measured from outermost portion of foundation, for example, foundation brackets on anchor windlass). 3.2.5 Over deck fittings. NOTICE! Surfaces being preserved are considered ?critical-coated surfaces?. 3.3 Method of surface preparation. The Contractor shall accomplish all coating removal/surface preparation by water-jetting, mechanical or sand blast. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE 4.1 Non-skid aggregate conformance. The Contractor shall ensure that the non-skid aggregate is a garnet, or inert non-ferrous grit. 5. NOTES This section is not applicable to this work item.
