REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN)The following information is provided for planning purposes only and is subject to change. This Request for Information (RFI) does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP). The Government is not committed or obligated to pay for the information submitted in response to this RFI, and no basis for claim shall arise as a result of this RFI or any contractor response to this RFI. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is in the process of conducting market research and planning for the potential upgrade/replacement the AN/URN-25 Transponder Group portion of TACAN. The TACAN system consists of one or more AN/URN-25 TACAN Transponder Groups and either the OE-273 (V)/URN or OE-273A (V)/URN Antenna Group for shipboard application or either the OE-258/URN or OE-258A/URN Antenna Group for shore based applications. The TACAN System provides TACAN equipped aircraft with range, bearing and station identification within a 300 mile radius. 1. The NAVAIR Landing Systems management team solicits industry comments on their approach to modernize the existing AN/URN-25 Transponder Group. The approach must be Military Specification MIL-N-29510 and FCC parts 15 and 87 compliant, and capable of obtaining FAA approval and be capable of successfully completing an FAA flight check. The proposed solution must also meet MIL-E-16400 (shock, vibration, power, humidity, salt fog, temperature, etc.), MIL-STD-1605 (shipboard electromagnetic compatibility) and MIL-STD-461 (control of electromagnetic interference characteristics of subsystems and equipment). 2. A TACAN Industry Day is being planned for on or about 27 & 28 April 2005 in the Lexington Park, MD area. Potential prime contractors and subcontractors are invited to attend. What topics would you like to see addressed at the conference? Are you interested in attending? Based on responses received to this RFI, we will determine if there are any space constraints which could limit the number of personnel from interested contractors/subcontractors from attending. Comments and suggestions regarding the Government’s course of action and/or alternatives you may offer are encouraged and appreciated. We request all written responses and comments be received no later than 4:00 PM EST on 15 April 2005. Firms responding should indicate whether they are small business (S), small disadvantaged business (SDB), 8(a), or large business (L). Interested parties should provide a primary point of contact, including telephone number and e-mail address, as well as indicate how many personnel representing the company would like to attend the Industry Day. Responses should be e-mailed to both of the following individuals: [email protected] NAVAIR Contracts/AIR-2.4.2.6.2, telephone (301) 757-5918, and [email protected] NAVAIR Program Office/PMA2132C, telephone (301) 995-6321.
