The Army Contracting Command-New Jersey, Emerging Technologies Contracting Center, Benet Laboratories (BL), Watervliet Arsenal, NY on behalf of the US Army Armament Research Development & Engineering Command (ARDEC), BL is seeking capability statements from firms that can provide services to rifle both .50 cal M2 and M242 25mm weapons of refractory material consisting of tantalum/10 tungsten (Ta/10W) alloys. This rifling service is for engraving the grooves unto the bores of both .50 cal M2 and M242 25mm weapon systems. The rifling engravings will follow the existing standard patterns stated on the respective weapons production drawing. The source shall have the ability to:
conduct and record bore measurements for both weapon calibers after rifling,
measure and reporting the rifling depth in respect to the rifling lands height,
measure at a minimum of 1 inch intervals at 0 and 90 degree diameter locations for both .50 cal M2 and M242 25mm weapons and,
be familiar with fabrication and inspection techniques used with gun bores.
Requirements:
1. Flexibility in producing rifling patterns by CNC or dedicated pattern plates
1.1 Minimum bore size 0.50 inches
1.2 Maximum bore size 1.00 (25mm)
1.3 Maximum Length of tube 85 inches
1.4 Machine must be able to quote mark Push quote mark , and quote mark Pull quote mark modes of Rifling
2. Rifling System tooling and work holding ability:
2.1 Rifling Machine must have the ability to facilitate single point tooling
2.2 Rifling Machine must have the ability to facilitate hook tooling
2.3 Rifling Machine must have the ability to facilitate crown broach tooling
3. NDT Inspection Ability and Imaging Capabilities:
3.1 Must have ability to inspect and record finished bore length by Video Bore- Scope
3.2 Must have ability to inspect and record finished rifled land at 1.0 inch intervals throughout the bore length by star-gage at 0 and 90 degree location
3.3 Laser bore inspection ability (LTC) is highly desirable
Quality Assurance: The vendor shall be ITAR compliant, ISO 9002:2000 compliant, and agree to the terms of the ARDEC-Benet non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
Deliverables:
1. Interested organizations should submit a tailored capability statement for these requirements that clearly details the ability to perform the aspects of the notice described above. All proprietary information should be marked as such. Responses will be reviewed only by ARDEC personnel and will be held in a confidential manner.
2. The capability statement shall include system specifics including:
i. Documented past performance history of rifling Tantalum/10 Tungsten (Ta10W)
ii. Model and specifications of Rifling Machine
iii. Measurement capability
