The US Army TACOM-ARDEC, on behalf of the Joint Program Management Office (JPMO) of the Lightweight Howitzer (LW155) Program, intends to award a sole source contract (under FAR 6.302-1) to Beldam Crossley, Ltd., Bolton, UK for the mmanufacture and delivery of 158 obturators for the M777 155mm Lightweight Howitzer. The obturator is part of the breech mechanism that seals the breech chamber during firing. The obturator is required to have a minimum durability of 1,500 Effective Full Charges. A one piece obturator manufactured by Beldam Crossley, Ltd. has proven to be highly effective in testing and has been qualified for use with the M777. A firm fixed price contract is anticipated.
