WMATA's Office of Business Transformation (OBTR) seeks to initiate an automated onboard camera enforcement program for bus lanes and bus zones. The project is termed the Bus Priority Violation Detection System (VDS). The program aims to improve travel time and reliability for bus riders by keeping bus lanes and bus zones clear from illegal use by unauthorized roadway users. WMATA desires to procure camera enforcement technology that would automatically detect these unauthorized roadway users and send vehicle identifying information to the jurisdictional partner for notice of infraction administration. In the immediate term, the program will be conducted in partnership with the District of Columbia, but WMATA hopes to expand this partnership to other Compact jurisdictions as well.
