The project is located within the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, specifically along the full length of Rend Trail between the Minden and Newlyn Trailheads in Glen Jean, West Virginia. The scope of work includes the rehabilitation of five existing bridges, addressing elements such as deck and railing replacement, rivet and bearing block repairs, and masonry and concrete restoration. Additionally, nine timber cribbing walls will be replaced with mechanically stabilized earth walls. Enhancements to Bridge 2 include constructing an overlook with retaining wall installation, handrail extension, a heavy-duty bench, and an interpretive sign base. At Big Rock, an existing stair system will be replaced with a combination ramp structure. Trail-wide improvements involve culvert upgrades, new ditching, railing installation at a vista overlook, and resurfacing with trail aggregate. The Minden Trailhead will be developed to include a flush restroom, lighting, seating, concrete parking, expanded gravel lot, and interpretive signage. Similarly, the Newlyn Trailhead will undergo rehabilitation with new concrete handicap parking, solar lighting, and gravel lot improvements. All work will be executed under a single prime contract.
